Dr. Merab Kutsia is the Founder and Director of PatentPro Solutions. He is admitted to practice before the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia (Sakpatenti) and the European Patent Office (EPO). With more than 18 years of experience in intellectual property law, he advises inventors, research institutions and companies on the full patent lifecycle.
In 2000, he graduated with a Bachelor's degree from the Faculty of Physics at Tbilisi State University (TSU). He continued his studies at Heidelberg University, where he earned his Master's degree in 2002 and a PhD in 2007, specializing in theoretical physics.
Merab has been active in the field of intellectual property since 2008. He completed the training as a European Patent Attorney candidate at patent law firms in Munich. In 2013, he became a registered Georgian Patent Attorney and was employed at an intellectual property law firm. In 2022, he qualified as a European Patent Attorney (EQE).
For 9 years Merab was leading the Department of Inventions and New Varieties and Breeds at the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia (Sakpatenti). He was involved in preparing the changes in the patent legislation of Georgia to harmonize it with the European legislation and to implement the system of validation of European patents in Georgia, operational since January 15, 2024.
Merab is a co-author of Wolters Kluwer Manual IP, Georgia Chapter. He is a certified tutor at the WIPO Academy. Merab is fluent in Georgian, English, German, Russian, and French.
